Sneakers (also known as trainers, athletic shoes, tennis shoes, gym shoes, kicks, sport shoes, flats, running shoes, or runners) are shoes that were originally designed for sports or other forms of physical exercise but are now widely used for casual wear.
Since their popularisation in the mid-twentieth century by companies such as Converse, Nike, and Spalding, they have become clothing, with variety growing exponentially in many global markets. Shoes, like other parts of the global clothing industry, are heavily concentrated in Asia, with Asia producing nine out of ten shoes. 
Modern sneakers are mostly made of synthetic materials, and the materials and manufacturing process emit an average of 14 kg (31 lb) of CO2.
Some businesses are attempting to substitute
